Family Action (Whānau Tōa) is a not-for-profit supporting women, children and families affected by family and sexual violence in West Auckland. Since the late 1980s, they have provided safe refuge, crisis support, counselling and wellness programmes.
Family Action provides confidential risk assessments and safety plans for people who need to leave unsafe living situations. Their website offers resources to help people recognise behaviours and situations that may put them at risk of harm.
One client talked about their experience saying:
"Being able to talk through my challenges and unpack my guilt, shame, and embarrassment about my situation has really helped me."
Fair Food supports Family Action through taking care of one need of food while they are dealing with other challenges.
Family action says:
"Our clients come to us having experienced trauma and the Fair Food just helps to remove one obstacle from their journey to wellness. It provides comfort in a time of great distress."
In 2025, Fair Food provided Family Action with 10,983 kilograms of kai. This amount equates to a week's worth of meals for 1,162 people.
If you would like to support Family Action and enable it to continue its impactful mahi in the community, donations can be made through its website. The organisation also accepts donations of non-perishable food items and toiletries.
