Black Ferns Help Tackle Hunger

The Black Ferns rolled up their sleeves at the Fair Food kai tables to help feed the community. The entire team spent an afternoon preparing food for the community meal that's served to 200 people every Sunday evening in the city centre.

The team's values include tautua or service, which is what motivated them to come to Fair Food and "give back to the places that made us who we are." One team shredded lamb while another team made the veggies for the main meal. They even chopped bags of onions without complaining! In the warehouse, groups made stir fry and smoothie packs to give to people living with limited kitchen facilities such as family violence shelters or emergency housing. The dragonfruit was a real hit among the team.

They also worked hard putting together care packs for street whānau including apples chopped finely, so people can eat them if they have weak or missing teeth. They quickly packed snack packs and cookies donated by Moustache cookies in Henderson and baked more than 200 banana blueberry muffins.

Reflecting on the day, they shared, "A really big thank you to Fair Food. We appreciate everything you do to reduce food waste and to serve and help our community. Thank you for letting us play a little part in helping out."
